Nigerian afropop star Mr Eazi teams up with American producer Dre Skull once again on “Hide Your Love,” the title track from their joint EP.
The two are no strangers to each other. Before this, they linked up with Vybz Kartel on “Lambo” and later brought in Cham for “Remember That.” All three records sit on the same project, “Hide Your Love.” But this title track stands as the anchor point of that rollout, and it also sets the tone for their forthcoming dancehall mixtape “Yard & Yanga.”
Mr Eazi’s laid-back Afropop delivery pairs naturally with Dre Skull’s dancehall-rooted production. The riddim leans minimalist and throbbing, giving both artists room to work without crowding the arrangement. So “Mr Eazi Hide Your Love” carries that easy, flirtatious energy his catalogue is known for, while Dre Skull’s Caribbean touch pushes it somewhere fresh.
Lyrically, the record encourages a woman to stop holding back her feelings and embrace what is already there between them. It is a simple theme, but the execution is what makes it work.
