Kojo Funds marks a decade in music with “HELLO IT’S ME AGAIN,” a six-track EP that plays like a reintroduction rather than a comeback.
The East London artist hadn’t released a full project since 2018’s “Golden Boy,” so this arrives with real gaps to fill. That reflective angle makes sense given the timing – “HELLO IT’S ME AGAIN” doubles as a decade marker for the man who helped build Afroswing from the ground up.
Opener “Long Time” sets the tone early, built on a beat that leans into Pharrell-style production but twists it through an Afroswing filter. “Problems” follows with something lighter, a feel-good love song built for festival setlists rather than headphones. Lead single “How Many,” produced by Grammy winner Killbeatz, brings Caribbean bounce and a genuine ode to gratitude, while “With You” folds silky guitars into intricate Afrobeat percussion. Closer “I Need” flips the mood entirely, dropping into a bass-heavy club sound to end things on a different note than where the project started.
What’s missing is almost as notable as what’s there. Kojo dropped “079” with Jay Silva earlier this year, and a reunion on this EP would’ve made sense – it doesn’t happen, and that absence leaves fans wanting a feature that never arrives. Still, the project holds together as a cohesive statement, with Kojo himself summing up the six tracks as different, amazing, and stylish.
With more than 500 million Spotify streams already behind him, “HELLO IT’S ME AGAIN” isn’t chasing a new audience. It’s Kojo Funds picking up a conversation with the one he’s already built, exactly where the title suggests.
