Johannesburg-born singer, MC, and songwriter Marcus Harvey delivers his third studio album “Son of Elvis” – a 13-track project released via Stay Low that pushes his neo-soul vision deeper into personal mythology than anything he has made before.

The title carries layers that reward unpacking. Harvey – born Lawrence Ofentse Harvey Mashiloane – uses “Son of Elvis” to unravel his complex relationship with his father through tongue-twisting verses in both English and Sepedi on the album’s centerpiece “Who Is Elvis?” So the project is not about the King of Rock and Roll. It is about inheritance, identity, and the specific emotional weight of defining yourself against someone who shaped you.

The album opens with “Rebecca’s Prayer [Intro]” – a deliberate spiritual dedication before the music fully opens up. Then “Mmangwane” arrives as a searing quiet-storm statement in Sepedi, Harvey’s searing falsetto carrying his resolve with precision. The deliberate blend of South African and American musical traditions runs through every track. “Come To Me” with Chicago MC Mick Jenkins channels the loose vibes of Sly Stone and D’Angelo. “Turtle Doves” with BLK ODYSSY extends that Afro-American sonic conversation further. And “Mapula,” “Waters,” and “Carried You” were all pre-released to warm the audience before the full project arrived.

His creative evolution from “I Am Marcus Harvey” through “Now You Know Me” and now this third album shows an artist who keeps expanding his world without abandoning his roots.
