“General Market” opens loud, and Yemi Alade sounds like she’s been waiting for exactly this kind of chaos.
Percussion piles up fast here, less a beat building gradually and more everything arriving at once, the way an actual market sounds the second you step into it. Vendors, noise, movement, the production leans into all of that instead of smoothing it out.
Her flow matches the mess on purpose. Lines come quick, almost list-like in places, names and phrases tossed out the way a trader might call out prices. It’s busier than her usual pocket, and she seems to enjoy pushing against that busyness rather than settling into it.
There’s a bragging thread running underneath too, everything she’s got laid out like goods on display. Nothing shy about the comparison either.
