Nigerian gospel producer and singer Diamond Jimma opens his five-track “GOD IN CHARGE” EP with “Mowa O,” dropping today September 24 as the project’s first statement.
“Mowa O” translates to “We Have Come” in Yoruba – and the communal declaration in that phrase sets the whole EP’s spiritual tone from the opening track. Diamond Jimma does not ease into the project gently. He leads with a worship statement that carries the weight of a congregation arriving at the throne with expectation rather than routine. So the record functions as both a song and a posture.
His signature blend of traditional Yoruba gospel elements with contemporary Afrocentric production gives “Mowa O” its distinctive identity. The melodic layering mirrors classic African gospel arrangements while the harmonic progressions stay current enough to travel beyond traditional church walls. So the record works in a Sunday service as naturally as it works through headphones on a Wednesday morning commute.
“GOD IN CHARGE” as an EP title also sets expectations that “Mowa O” immediately fulfils. An opening track on a project called “GOD IN CHARGE” needs to sound like genuine surrender rather than performance – and Diamond Jimma delivers that sincerity throughout. His decade of presence in Nigeria’s gospel music scene gives every note credibility that newer voices cannot yet carry.
The remaining four tracks – “Chosen One,” “Big Star,” “Esteri,” and “Wawo” – each build on the foundation this opener establishes. But “Mowa O” earns its track one position cleanly.
