South African Maskandi artist Mxhashazwa unveils “Ubani ubaba kajesu?,” a five-song EP with three featured voices.
The title translates from isiZulu to “Who Is Jesus’ Father?” in English.” Some listings read it as a question about religion belief and spirituality. So “Mxhashazwa Ubani ubaba kajesu?” builds its identity around that curiosity. The EP employs the expressive storytelling tradition of Maskandi to explore the idea.
The project contains 5 songs. “Ngeke Ngikuxolele” opens it with Thandeka Radebe. The title track follows at number two. “Amabhimbi” then sits in the middle as another solo cut. Together they form a tight sequence.
Londeka Shangase joins him on “Umayibuthe” at track four. Skhenqe then closes the EP on “Yibo Abangondlayo.” So three different guest voices move through just five songs. That variety keeps the short project from feeling repetitive.
Mxhashazwa blends traditional Maskandi sounds with contemporary flair. Also, rich storytelling and heartfelt melodies carry the title track in particular. Still, the guest features add fresh textures, especially on the tracks with Thandeka Radebe and Londeka Shangase.
Maskandi fans listen for vocal delivery, storytelling, and melody. Mxhashazwa puts all three on display across five songs, so the EP works as a quick introduction.
Compact EPs ask for focus. Five songs leave little room for filler, so each track has to earn its place. That setup suits a project with one big question at its core. Listeners can finish it in a single sitting and then replay the parts that spoke loudest.
