Berlin rapper Sido looks back at his own story on “ISSA,” a two-minute-24-second German rap single produced by Yanek Stärk.
The song is autobiographical. Write-ups say Sido reflects on his childhood, the hard times he went through, and how he rose to fame and wealth. Berlin, his family, and his daughter appear as personal markers, and he keeps repeating that he is a Berliner who stays down to earth and content with his life. So the tone sounds confident without turning into a flex. The lyrics are in German, but the idea of staying humble after success travels easily.
The credits are small. Yanek Stärk and Paul Würdig, Sido’s real name, appear as composers, and Goldzweig Berlin released the song under licence to Universal Music’s Urban label. A music video followed a few days after the audio. The single also leads into a longer run of releases, since “WOKE” came next in September and fans can now pre-order an album linked to the campaign. Sido has also lined up four nights at Berlin’s Columbiahalle in December.
Few rappers keep a long career as an everyday voice, and Sido manages it by talking about ordinary life. He treats success as one part of his story, not the whole thing, and that makes a record like “ISSA” feel direct. For African listeners who follow hip-hop in other languages, it shows how local detail makes rap stronger.
Even if you do not speak German, the beat and flow carry the mood.
Pick up a bit of Berlin with “ISSA” and tell us – which city shaped who you are?
