Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller teams up with Ty Dolla $ign on Cinderella, the fifth track on The Divine Feminine.
Cinderella takes the fairy tale and makes it smokier and far more adult. Ty Dolla $ign handles the hook, and it reads like a warning to get home. Mac Miller built the album as a reflection on love and feminine energy.
It runs a full 8:00, so it is the second-longest song on the album. Only God Is Fair, Sexy Nasty, with Kendrick Lamar, goes longer, at 8:20. The album has 10 tracks and runs 52 minutes, though Mac first wanted an EP.
The video runs 12 minutes, which is longer than the song. Bo Mirosseni directed it, and Mac is blindfolded and taken to a club where Ty$ is performing. Women with angel wings turn up backstage, while the smoky club sometimes fills with angels and dead bodies. Mac then released it right after his Coachella set.
Ty Dolla $ign later performed it at NPR’s Tiny Desk as a tribute to his late collaborator. Planet God Damn, with Njomza, follows at just 3:11, so the album resets quickly. Put Cinderella on tonight and tell us in the comments – did the eight minutes fly by or drag?
