Kumasi rapper Osei Kwaku Vincent, known as Strongman, links up with Kweku Darlington on the new Strong Empire single “Disco,” produced by Freddy Beatz.
Both artists are from Kumasi, so this was always going to feel like home ground. Kweku Darlington broke out with “Sika Aba Fie” back in 2021 – that drill-influenced street anthem that picked up a 3Music Awards nomination and a full remix with Kuami Eugene, Fameye, and Yaw Tog. He brings that same melodic energy into “Disco,” and it sits differently next to Strongman’s verse because the two have contrasting registers that actually work in the song’s favour.
This is not their first time together either. They connected on Strongman’s 2024 single “Focus,” so by now there is an easy back-and-forth between them. Freddy Beatz handling production is also a notable detail – the beat choice suggests something lively, with a title like “Disco” pointing squarely at the dancefloor rather than the introspective corner of Strongman’s catalogue. That range is part of what has kept him relevant since his days at Sarkcess Music and into his independent run under Strong Empire.
Strongman’s 2024 album God and Rap showed he could move between heavy rap and more colourful sounds. “Disco” feels like a continuation of that – still his voice, still his pen, but pointed in a direction his audience can bounce to.
Queue up “Disco” and drop a comment below – does this Kumasi link-up deserve a full project together, or is this one better as a one-off?
