Zambian singer Elton Mulenga, known as Yo Maps, connects with producer King Tec on the solo cut “Bitter Truth,” his follow-up to the Vibes on Vibes album.
King Tec has been in Yo Maps’ corner for a while now. The producer is behind records like “Superman” – the one that pulled in Omarion – and “Peace of Mind,” so his fingerprints on “Bitter Truth” make a lot of sense. Their chemistry is real, and you can hear it in how the production sits under the weight of what Yo Maps is actually saying.
The song deals with the specific pain of discovering betrayal after you have already given someone your full trust. It is not a general heartbreak record. Yo Maps is talking about the moment reality cuts through – when the person you chose turns out to be someone entirely different. That kind of subject matter is where he has always been most convincing, because he does not perform pain, he just describes it plainly.
Yo Maps built his name on exactly this kind of emotional directness, from his 2018 breakthrough “Finally” with Macky 2 through his Ngoma Award-winning debut album Komando. “Bitter Truth” keeps that thread going. Under Olios Records, he continues to put out music that his audience actually lives in – not just listens to.
