Nigerian alternative music star Cruel Santino joins rising Afrobeats singer Mavo on “Siesta,” a short collaboration bringing two different sounds together.
Cruel Santino has never been one to follow the usual Afrobeats formula. His music often moves between alternative pop, electronic sounds and experimental rhythms. On this new recording, he brings that familiar approach while Mavo adds his vocals to the mix.
Mavo has been gaining attention with his own releases and collaborations. His appearance gives “Siesta” another Nigerian connection, especially as he continues to build his name among younger Afrobeats listeners. Rather than turning the song into a conventional Afrobeats record, both artists keep things within Santino’s alternative musical direction.
The single runs for approximately two minutes and was released through Native Sounds Ltd and Warner Records. It arrived shortly after Santino’s two-track project International Collector / Oz., which featured the songs “International Collector” and “Oz.”
For listeners who have followed Cruel Santino from Mandy & The Jungle and Subaru Boys: FINAL HEAVEN, his latest release offers another glimpse into his constantly changing sound. Mavo’s appearance also makes this an interesting meeting between two artists exploring different sides of Nigerian music.
