Tanzanian rapper Barkeliam drops “DEPRESSION,” his latest solo release under OrbitMziki, following a string of consistent 2026 singles.
Few Tanzanian artists have moved as frequently as Barkeliam this year. “My Life” in April, “Tap Tap” in May, and now “DEPRESSION” arriving fresh in July. But rather than chasing quantity, each record has shown a different angle of who he is as an artist. Also known as Bushman, he built his name through sharp, lyrical hip-hop that never really softens its edges for a mainstream audience.
“DEPRESSION” goes somewhere darker and more personal than “Tap Tap” did. The title signals a record built around emotional weight rather than lyrical bravado. But Barkeliam handles that territory with the same directness he carries on his harder material. Also, OrbitMziki’s production approach gives the record enough space for the subject matter to breathe without crowding it with unnecessary noise.
Mental health conversations are still rare in East African hip-hop. So a record like “DEPRESSION” arriving from someone with Barkeliam’s street credibility means more than just a new single drop.
