Nigerian alte-influenced artist Mavo delivers a smooth personal record with “Superwoman,” the sixth track off his debut album “Business.”
Mavo does not rush the story. He builds the feeling slowly, and by the time the hook lands, you already understand exactly who he is singing about.
What makes “Superwoman” interesting is the contrast inside it. The first half deals with outside noise – people misreading the situation, jealousy, and the grind that keeps him focused. But the second half shifts into something softer. He talks about a woman who wants to meet his mother and keeps asking him to come to Canada for the summer. That kind of specific detail is rare in Afrobeats love records, and it gives the song a lived-in quality most artists miss.
Mavo has built a growing audience on that exact quality – honest, personal writing wrapped in a sound that sits comfortably between alte and mainstream Afropop. “Business” as an album was already getting strong word of mouth, and “Superwoman” reminds people why. At three minutes and twelve seconds, it runs slightly longer than most of the project’s other cuts, but it earns every second.
