South African Afropop and Amapiano artist Danya Devs has teamed up with rising KwaZulu-Natal vocalist Naledi Aphiwe on a smooth new single titled “Mpilo Yam,” and the pairing makes complete sense given their shared creative history.
“Mpilo Yam” translates to “My Life” in Zulu. The title fits naturally into the kind of personal, emotionally grounded music Danya Devs has built his brand around.
Naledi Aphiwe brings serious credibility to this collaboration. Since then, she signed with Virgin Music Group and won Soft ‘n Free Pop Artist of the Year at the 2024 Basadi in Music Awards. Getting her on a record is no small thing.
Danya Devs also has a strong working relationship with both Naledi Aphiwe and the broader South African indie scene. “Mpilo Yam” arrives at a point where both artists are genuinely on the rise.
