Fela Kuti’s youngest son Seun Kuti brings Egypt 80 back with a purpose on “Problems,” featuring Jamaican reggae artist Kabaka Pyramid, released July 29, 2026.
The record arrives as the B-side to the “Na Dem” / “Problems” 7-inch vinyl double release on Django Music. Both tracks mark a new sonic chapter for Seun and Egypt 80, with Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective handling production on both sides. So the project carries serious musical weight before you even press play.
“Problems” builds a rhythmic bridge between Lagos and Kingston. Seun’s gritty Afrobeat vocals sit over rolling percussion and a propulsive bassline, while Kabaka Pyramid brings his conscious reggae delivery into the conversation. But this is not a fusion experiment. Both artists stay true to their roots, and the track earns its pan-African identity organically rather than by force.
The theme is direct. “Problems” speaks to systemic challenges that oppressed communities share across borders. So the Lagos-Kingston pairing is not just sonic – it is political. Seun has always carried his father Fela’s activist legacy through his music, and this record continues that tradition while pulling in a generation of listeners who came to conscious reggae through Kabaka Pyramid’s world.
Koleoso’s production deserves credit here. He keeps things heavy and grooving without losing the hypnotic quality that makes Afrobeat work at its best. The whole release, pressed into wax as a 7-inch vinyl, is as much a statement as it is a record.
