South African Maskandi artist Sabelo Zandlezinhle returns with his six-track EP “Kukhona Okusethunjini,” a deeply personal project rooted in isiZulu storytelling.
The title translates to “There Is Something In The Soul” in Zulu – and that phrase sets the emotional tone for everything across the six tracks. Sabelo Zandlezinhle does not use the concept loosely. Each song explores the inner world rather than external circumstances – perseverance, prayer, faith, love, and the honest texture of everyday life all sit inside the EP’s framework.
His previous work, including the “IPHUTHALAMI” project and singles like “Sasibancane” and “iXoki Lami,” showed a consistent artist building credibility through real storytelling rather than trend-chasing. So “Kukhona Okusethunjini” does not arrive as a reinvention. It arrives as a deepening – more focused, more emotionally honest, and more complete than what came before.
The production blends traditional Maskandi guitar work with contemporary South African country sounds. Sabelo Zandlezinhle’s expressive vocal delivery is the record’s emotional backbone, and the arrangements are built around giving that voice room to breathe throughout.
Six tracks across roughly 24 minutes keeps the EP tight and purposeful. Nothing overstays its welcome. The tracklist moves from love poetry on “Izinkondlo Zothando” through prayer on “Sengahlala Ngikhuleka” to relational tension on “Sesaxabana Sodwa” without losing the project’s spiritual thread.
