South African producer Stakev links up with Xduppy, bringing in Amapiano royalty Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa on “Unexpected.”
This one continues a real working relationship. Stakev’s catalogue already includes “Shout” featuring Kabza De Small, and this new release follows his 2025 single “Ngiyavuma” and last year’s “Timeless” album. Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, the Scorpion Kings themselves, keep proving they’ll show up wherever the groove calls, and Stakev’s built enough trust with both to bring them back for another round. Xduppy’s own catalogue stays just as busy, popping up across countless Amapiano collaborations this year.
Production leans deep into that signature sound, built around piano melodies layered with percussion and rolling log drums. Nothing here rushes toward a hook. The groove stays steady and hypnotic throughout, giving all four contributors room to leave their mark without crowding the mix.
Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa then layer their own instincts on top, adding that unmistakable Scorpion Kings touch. Their combined chemistry carries the record from the first drop to the last.
