Berlin production trio KITSCHKRIEG pull Omah Lay, Blumengarten, and 255 together on a cross-continental record called “Gut Genug Afro Version.”
“Gut Genug” was already a big deal before this version arrived. The original German-language record with Blumengarten and Shirin David made history as one of the first German songs to crack the US Billboard charts in decades – so the decision to bring Omah Lay in for an Afro rework was not just creative, it was strategic. And it pays off.
Omah Lay does what he does best on this kind of track. He finds the emotion in the production and builds around it, not over it. The Afro version keeps KITSCHKRIEG’s signature minimalist feel intact – sparse, atmospheric, room to breathe – but Omah Lay’s contribution gives the record a new warmth. 255 adds another texture to the mix, and it all holds together without feeling forced.
What makes this interesting is the direction of the exchange. Most international collaborations see European acts getting featured on African records. Here, an already-viral German song comes to Afrobeats territory on its own terms, and the result is something that works on both sides of that conversation.
“Gut Genug” translates to “good enough” – but this Afro Version is clearly reaching for something beyond that.
