Nigerian singer-songwriter Kunmie delivers his 13-track debut album “22,” a project he built around one of the most personal chapters of his life so far.

The title carries real weight. Kunmie has described “22” as the year he found purpose, and the title track along with “Prisoner” stand out as the two songs he considers most autobiographical on the entire project. He wrote the title track specifically for this album rather than pulling from older material, which explains why it feels like the truest representation of everything else surrounding it.

That personal thread runs through nearly every corner of the tracklist. “Calvary” leans on family prayer as a source of grounding, “Prisoner” sits with confinement without rushing toward resolution, and “Answer Me” digs into a relationship bruised by broken trust rather than the certainty found on his earlier hit “Arike.” Even the lighter cuts like “Tonight” and “Abeg O” give the album room to breathe between its heavier emotional stretches.

Kunmie also proves he can hold his own next to established names. Phyno, Wizard Chan, Lojay, Zlatan, G4ZI, and Joeboy all appear across the project, yet none of those collaborations overshadow his own voice or vision. Opener “Laye Mi” with G4ZI sets a confident tone, while “Confessions” closes the emotional arc with the same directness that defines the whole record.

Thirteen tracks in, “22” plays like a genuine coming-of-age document rather than a scattered collection of singles – which song on the album told you the most about who Kunmie really is?
