Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist Lava Lava responds to his critics with a resilient new single titled “Maneno,” released under his own Bite Gang imprint.

Lava Lava recently faced accusations of “faking life” after acquiring a new house and a sleek car, and “Maneno” is his direct answer to that noise. Rather than staying quiet, he chose to address it through music – which is exactly the kind of response his fanbase has come to expect from him.
“Maneno” itself is Swahili for “words” and Lava Lava uses it a lot in the chorus, almost like a warning. He treats careless words as weapons, something that can cause real damage if not checked. He touches on universal frustrations too, thru vivid storytelling – arriving late and the boss looking, falling behind on rent, borrowing from friends who later talk about it. So the record moves beyond his personal situation into something listeners can recognize in their own lives.
Sonically, the rumba and zouk-influenced instrumentation gives “Maneno” a different texture from his usual output, opening with gentle keys before building into a fuller chorus. This marks his biggest release since parting ways with Wasafi, the label that first introduced him to the industry, making the timing of this comeback even more significant.
