South African hitmakers Cooper SA and Tyler ICU deliver their fully collaborative project, “One Day in Tembisa,” a six-track EP built entirely on ensemble chemistry.
What separates this EP from most Amapiano releases is the sheer scale of collaboration. Across six tracks, Cooper SA and Tyler ICU work with more than a dozen different voices – Khalil Harrison, Ceeka RSA, Tyrone Dee, LeeMcKrazy, Jaydon Lewis, Shiny, DJ Exit, Thama Tee, Tiiger, Al Xapo, Femme Fatale Selection, Dr Peppa, Optimist Music ZA, and Colkaze all appear somewhere across the project. So this is less a traditional duo album and more a curated showcase of the artists currently shaping South African Amapiano.
The project opens with its title track “One Day,” setting the tone before moving through “Weekend,” a lighter cut featuring Thama Tee and Tiiger, and “Khoma Lah,” which stacks six vocalists into one dense, textured record. “Webaba Geza” brings in Scotts Maphuma for another shift in energy, while “International” leans into ambition with Al Xapo and Femme Fatale Selection. The project closes on “Phata Phata,” a title that nods to South Africa’s deeper musical history.
What ties “One Day in Tembisa” together is restraint from Cooper SA and Tyler ICU themselves. Rather than dominating the mix, both producers consistently give their collaborators room to lead, letting the EP feel like a community effort rooted in Tembisa rather than a vanity project stacked with names.
