Woza Bakzin and GoldMax stack up a serious lineup on “Xhoshi Ikati,” bringing in DJ Tira, Captain, Massive DJ and Ray & Jay for the ride.
Five, six names deep on one record, this is basically an amapiano posse cut at this point. DJ Tira’s involvement alone signals this isn’t a small release. Everyone here’s got their own following, so getting them all on one track took some doing.
The instrumental goes heavy on log drum, obviously, but Massive DJ’s touch adds extra low end that rattles a bit more than usual. Captain’s production instincts show in how layered the percussion gets without turning messy. It’s busy, but organized busy, if that makes sense.
Woza Bakzin opens strong, setting a pace the rest of the crew has to match. DJ Tira’s presence on the back end brings that veteran weight, doesn’t need to shout to be heard. You can tell who’s been doing this longest just from how relaxed his part sounds.
Ray & Jay and Captain trade off in the middle stretch, keeping the energy from dipping between the bigger names. Nobody disappears into the crowd here, which honestly is impressive with this many people on one song. GoldMax deserves credit for making it all sit together.
This is a party record built by committee, and somehow committee decisions actually worked out for once. Six cooks, one solid broth.
