Swayvee links up with JayJayy and Bola Bmh on “Spaceship,” and this one floats somewhere different than his last drop.
Space imagery in a song title usually means one of two things, either literal escapism or just a flashy metaphor for standing out. Feels like a bit of both here honestly. Swayvee’s not grounding this one in anything too literal, more vibe than story.
Production drifts a bit further from straight amapiano, some airy synth textures floating over the log drum base. Feels spacier, unsurprisingly, lighter touch on the low end than usual. JayJayy’s fingerprints might be in that shift, hard to say exactly who did what.
Swayvee opens loose, almost dreamy in how he rides the beat. Not rushing anywhere, letting the spacey production carry him. Different energy than the direct compliment approach on “Omalicha,” more abstract this time.
JayJayy and Bola Bmh split the rest pretty evenly, each adding their own texture without crowding Swayvee’s lead. Bola Bmh’s part especially adds a bit of grit that cuts through the floatier production. Keeps the whole thing from drifting too far into background noise.
Three voices, one drifting concept, and it mostly holds together. “Spaceship” won’t be for everyone, some might want it grounded a bit more. But the ambition’s there, and that counts for something.
