Awilo Longomba comes through with “Makusudi,” and after decades in the game, the man still knows how to move a room.

Makusudi translates roughly to “on purpose,” intentional, deliberate. Fitting title honestly, everything about a veteran like Awilo Longomba feels calculated at this stage. Not in a cold way, more like someone who knows exactly what works.

Soukous guitar runs all through this one, that unmistakable rippling pattern he’s built a career on. Rhythm section stays tight and fast, congas doing serious work underneath. Classic Congolese dance sound, not chasing any modern trend to stay relevant.

Awilo Longomba sings with that same effortless charisma he’s always had, decades in and it hasn’t dulled. Doesn’t sound like he’s trying to prove anything anymore. Just doing what he does, and doing it well.

Lyrically it stays light, mostly about dancing, movement, living fully and on purpose. Nothing heavy weighing the track down. The rhythm carries most of the message anyway, words are almost secondary here.

“Makusudi” isn’t reinventing Awilo Longomba’s sound, and honestly it doesn’t need to. The formula’s worked for this long for a reason. Some things don’t need fixing.
