South African Amapiano vocalist Makhosi delivers his most complete body of work yet with “Igagasi,” a six-track EP released August 28 under his own imprint.
“Igagasi” means “wave” in isiZulu – and the title fits the project’s emotional movement perfectly. The EP does not stay in one feeling. It rises and falls like water across its six tracks – romantic devotion, butterflies, soulful reflection, and spiritual weight all sitting within the same body of work. That emotional range across a short project is what gives “Igagasi” its depth.
The collaborator selection also shows real artistic intelligence. Nomfundo Moh on “Amavemvane” brings 6x Platinum vocal credibility and the kind of soulful warmth that elevates every record she touches. Ndu Browns appears on “Soul Ties” – continuing the creative relationship already established through “Thekwini.” Then “Umoya Wolwandle” stands alone as one of the EP’s most atmospheric solo moments, giving Makhosi’s voice full space without any shared spotlight.
The decision to close the EP with the title track “Igagasi” is also structurally deliberate. By the time the project arrives at its final track, the listener has moved through love, longing, and spiritual texture. The closing wave lands at a moment when the EP has already built enough emotional momentum to make it hit harder than it would have as an opener.
