Tanzanian singer-songwriter Mavokali returns with fresh energy on “Cheche,” a lively Bongo Flava record blending romance with dance-ready production.
The title translates from Swahili to “sparks,” and Mavokali uses it to describe the overwhelming feeling of finding someone who completely reshapes his emotional world. So “Mavokali Cheche” isn’t a subtle love song. It leans fully into infatuation, moving between Swahili and English while keeping the tone bright, warm and easy to sing along to. Hitboy Entertainment backs the release, marking a new chapter for an artist already known for his breakout hit “Commando (Mapopo).”
Clean guitar riffs, bouncy electric keys and snappy percussion shakers build the arrangement, giving the record that signature mid-tempo Bongo Flava bounce his fanbase already expects. Mavokali’s rich tenor carries most of the emotional weight here, gliding over the beat with the kind of nimble Swahili phrasing that’s helped him build genuine regional traction over the years.
Director Lashku handled the accompanying music video, adding a visual layer to the release. Between the charismatic delivery and the sticky, repeated hook, “Cheche” plays like a private courtship turned into something universally danceable.
