Tanzanian beatmaker Black Ninjah gathers a full emcee cast on a heavy new record titled “Tukusa 4 (i).” Songa, P Mawenge, Mansu Li, Solo Thang and Dizasta Vina all jump on it.

The record belongs to the Tukusa Clan series, which keeps bringing Tanzanian emcees together. Black Ninjah has pushed the series through several parts, and each one adds new voices. So fans of conscious rap and boom bap will pay attention.

Black Ninjah produces and arranges the beat himself, and the boom bap style stays proudly old school. Knocking drums anchor the sound, so the rappers get plenty of room. Boombapclinic and Dapstrem Entertainment back the release.

Black Ninjah steers the posse with the calm of a veteran. He doesn’t over-rap, yet every bar feels planned. As the host, he sets the tone before the guests take over.

Songa, P Mawenge, Mansu Li, Solo Thang and Dizasta Vina each take a turn. Each emcee brings a different flow, so the verses never blur together. Meanwhile, the lyrics lean conscious, with social commentary and sharp wordplay.

This one works because the cast is large but the sound stays unified. Although it asks for close listening, patient fans get plenty back.
