Thirteen-year-old Benue rapper and singer Iceking Ochacho keeps the energy light on “Vibe Check,” track 11 of his debut album.
The album is called “The Future,” and it holds 15 songs. “Vibe Check” arrives late in the run, and it lasts just over two minutes. That short length keeps it snappy, and Chief Double G, who produced much of the project, gives it a clean Afrobeats feel. So the song works like a quick burst of attitude after the longer album moments.
Iceking, who comes from Otukpo in Benue State, first caught attention through freestyle clips online. Since then he has moved toward full original songs, and this album marks the biggest step so far. It follows his 2025 EP “I’m Back,” and songs like “Oh Papa” and “Oil on My Head” showed his thankful side. “Vibe Check” is more playful, so it adds another colour to his catalogue.
The guest list helps tell the story of his rise. He worked with Jumabee on “Blessings,” with Magnito on “Call You Back,” and with 2Baba on “Young Forever.” Those names show how seriously established artists are taking him, even at his age.
The real test for any young artist is how the music holds up beyond the headlines. Short, catchy records like this one give him a good way to build that case, one song at a time.
For fans of upbeat Afrobeats with a youthful spark, it is worth a listen.
