South African maskandi singer G-Jealous brings in Shenge Wasehlalankosi for Umaqondana, the closing track on his nine-song album Sidla Imali.
Umaqondana translates as the perfect match, and the song is built around that wish. G-Jealous asks his father to burn impepho at the altar and plead for a partner. He says he has struggled in love for too long, so he wants the cycle to stop.
Thuthani Ndlovu is the producer credited across the album, and that includes this cut. Credits name Bongumusa Minenhle Xulu as composer and lyricist. G-Jealous also sings background on the project, per the same credits. The record runs 4:45, just behind Nhliziyo yami at 4:48, which is the longest cut on the project.
Shenge Wasehlalankosi leans on maskandi storytelling and rhythmic guitar in his own work. Features have helped carry his name to wider audiences. He joins G-Jealous on the album closer, so the project ends on a feature.
Sidla Imali runs nine tracks and came through 7416012 Records DK. Mzukulu and Nqobile guest on the title track, while Mhuqa takes Amangqim’ngqim and Smanga takes Sukuma bekubone. G-Jealous also put out Nyanga Yami before it, and Luqale sakudlala is his newer single. Check out Umaqondana and tell us in the comments – who in your circle needs to hear it first?
