South African soul singer Mlindo The Vocalist teams up with Sjava on Egoli, a cut from his debut album Emakhaya.
Egoli is about leaving home for the City of Gold to chase a dream. Sjava tells his mother he is leaving tonight, since he wants to earn enough to build her a house. He later told a crowd he was desperate but hopeful when he recorded it.
The song sits at track 4 on Emakhaya, a 13-track album released through BlaqBoy Music and Sony Music Africa. Sjava also returned on Luselude, which opens Mlindo’s later album Lindokuhle. Emakhaya carries AmaBlesser with DJ Maphorisa, plus Macala with Kwesta and Thabsie.
US producer Sango later remixed the mellow original into a faster, percussion-heavy version. Sjava has brought his mother on stage for it, and the crowd sang along. Mlindo did the same with his own mom at the Mlindo Live Experience, with Sjava beside him. Both men have played it live more than once, so the song still lands with crowds.
He recorded Lindokuhle at home in Port Shepstone during lockdown. That album also brings in Ami Faku on Lotto. Hum along to Egoli and tell us in the comments – does Mlindo’s voice or Sjava’s hit harder for you?
