Rapper Phyno turns to prayer on Chukwu Okike, a solo thanksgiving cut from his album Let That Sink In.
Chukwu Okike translates to God the Creator in Igbo. Phyno steps away from bravado for a prayer of appreciation. He looks back on his journey and credits divine guidance for his talent and the street grind. Calm and grateful is the tone, so the record plays like a thank-you.
The beat is warm and mid-tempo, with delicate guitar licks and dreamy piano chords . Snappy shakers keep time underneath, while the piano fills the space. Phyno opens in his raspy flow, then spills Igbo proverbs and humble observations. Penthauze and MAD Solutions share the copyright line on the album.
Faith is not new ground for him, since Fada Fada with Olamide mixes highlife and gospel. Yes, I Pray (Nwa Oge Nta) is another title with prayer in its name. Healing, another inward single, also sits on Let That Sink In. Nwa Aturu and Next Of Kin are two more solo cuts on the project.
Let That Sink In has 15 tracks and runs about 45 minutes. Fireboy DML and Seyi Vibez are among the guests, but this one stays solo. Pause for Chukwu Okike and tell us in the comments – what are you grateful for this week?
