Afrosoul singer WurlD returns with a new single titled “Da Da”, a laid-back record rooted in Pidgin storytelling.

“Da Da” runs on an easy Afrobeats bounce. Warm percussion and a quiet bass line leave plenty of room for his voice. So WurlD glides between Pidgin lines and melodic hooks, and he never rushes a word.

Lyrically, he talks about relationships and city living. Ambition runs quietly underneath, but he keeps the mood relaxed. Pidgin keeps the lines plain, while the hooks stay smooth. He keeps the delivery loose, because the song reads more like a chat than a sermon.

WurlD started out in Atlanta, where he wrote songs for Timbaland and B.o.B. He also co-wrote “Blow My Mind”, the Davido hit with Chris Brown. His breakout “Show You Off” featured Walshy Fire of Major Lazer.

Walshy Fire also joined him on the recent “Outside”, while Marioo and Sarz have shared tracks with him lately. Afrosoul, his 2020 EP, gave him a streaming hit with “Ghost Town”. His 2022 debut album, “My WorlD with U”, followed that EP. Hum along to “Da Da” for a minute, then tell us in the comments: is WurlD’s Pidgin side the one you want more of?
