South African singer Mawelele explores love and relationships on PGLTM, a 16-track R&B album featuring Kwesta, Nomfundo Moh and Olivetheboy.
The album title stands for Pretty Girls Listen To Mawelele. But Mawelele has made it clear that the project is not limited to a particular group of women. His message is about self-love, confidence and appreciating yourself regardless of your appearance.
There is plenty of romance across the project. Mawelele touches on the different stages of relationships, including falling in love, dealing with disappointment and finding the courage to give someone another chance. He spent almost a year putting the album together, making it one of his more personal releases.
One of the songs already attracting attention is “Ngiyaz’fela,” featuring Kwesta and Kinglee Beats. The collaboration previously gained traction on South African radio, reaching No. 3 on the Radio Monitor Top 100 Airplay Chart. Its music video also passed 1.7 million YouTube views.
Nomfundo Moh appears on “Phakade,” while Olivetheboy and Ndu Browns join Kinglee Beats on “Maradona.” Other guests include Danya Devs on “Second Chance,” Tony Dayimane on “Believe” and Empro on “Don’t Kiss & Tell.” Nigerian listeners may also want to check out “Superstar,” featuring uSimamane.
Away from the collaborations, Mawelele handles several songs himself, including “True Love,” “Jele,” “Ngempela” and “Life Without You.”
Released through gamma. Africa, PGLTM runs for approximately 61 minutes. The album also marks an important moment in his career as he prepares for his first South African headline tour.
