Nigerian gifted singer Mayorkun opens his EP “Long Live, The Mayor!” with “Home Training”, a playful single marking ten years.
Fresh VDM produced “Home Training”, and it leads the EP. “Kaluba”, his earlier release, still closes the project. Apple Music already lists the song among its Best New Songs.
In Nigerian slang, home training means the manners your family raised you with. Mayorkun says love can make you drop those manners for a while, so the title doubles as a joke. He leans playful, but the idea is real: love can change how you act.
The release lines up with ten years in music for Mayorkun. His debut single “Eleko” came out under Davido’s DMW label, which he left in 2021. Then his album “Back in Office” followed through Sony Music. That album carried “Holy Father” with Victony.
He won Best New Act at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2017. Davido’s “The Best” also put him on a hit from “A Better Time”, and the video showed Davido mentoring him in a ninja theme. Before this, he featured on “Bumpy Ride”, track 10 on Harmonize’s 14-track album.
Spin “Home Training” and confess in the comments the last time love made you forget yours.
