South African Amapiano producer Djy Vino drops his most complete body of work yet with “I AM,” an eight-track album releasing today September 25 that carries real artistic ambition across every entry.
The album title is a declaration of identity rather than a concept. Djy Vino is not introducing himself through this project. He is asserting who he already is – a producer with a specific sonic vision and enough industry credibility to build an eight-track album around collaborators that include Kabza De Small, Nkulee501, CowBoii, Scotts Maphuma, Tycoon, and Makhanj without any single feature overshadowing the project’s central voice. That is a harder balance to achieve than it looks.
The sequencing across eight tracks also shows deliberate structural thinking. “Midnight Train” opens with collective vocal energy from SLY, Jinger Stone, and Baby S.O.N. “Uzamcolo” with Kabza De Small immediately raises the stakes at track two. “Thula” with Scotts Maphuma then pulls the temperature down at track three before “Inhliziyo Yam” delivers the album’s only solo moment at track four.
The second half then moves through “H5J” with Nkulee501, “Khuphula” with CowBoii, “Jappino x Khoto” with Tycoon, and closes with “Ndiyoyika” featuring Nkulee501 and Makhanj. That arc from energy to intimacy to depth gives “I AM” a beginning, middle, and end.
