Dua Lipa reimagines “Training Season” on her new live album “Live From The Royal Albert Hall,” performed alongside The Heritage Orchestra, a fourteen-person choir, and a seven-piece band. The one-off show marked her UK debut performance of material from “Radical Optimism.”
That October show turned into something Dua had wanted for a long time. She’s talked about dreaming of reimagining her music with an orchestra since working on “Radical Optimism,” constantly thinking about how these songs would transform live on stage once the right opportunity came along.
The Royal Albert Hall gave her exactly that chance. She called getting to perform there unlike anything she’d ever done, describing it as the perfect moment to reconstruct her songs and celebrate them in a beautiful, intimate setting.
“Training Season” takes on a grander, more cinematic quality here. Added string and horn sections give the track an almost Bond-theme edge, pulling it away from its original pop production and into something closer to a live orchestral epic.
The full show moved through “Radical Optimism” start to finish before pulling in fan favorites like “Love Again” and “Levitating.” Elton John even joined her during the encore for “Cold Heart,” only the second time the pair had performed the song together live.
Ben Foster conducted the Heritage Orchestra throughout the night, and critics noted how the reworked arrangements let Dua deliver performances that felt both towering and intimate, depending on which song came up next.
By the end, “Training Season (Live from the Royal Albert Hall)” plays like proof that Dua Lipa’s pop songwriting can hold up under a completely different sonic treatment. The orchestral weight gives the track room to breathe in ways the studio version never attempted.
