Kel-P, the sensational Nigerian musician and recording artist steadies again on “Heart Of Gold,” and this feels less like resolution than just another honest stop along the way.
Seven songs into this run now, and the title’s almost a compliment turned inward, or maybe outward toward somebody else entirely. Hard to say without more context which direction it’s aimed. Either way it lands gentler than the emptiness of “No Direction.”
Production picks warmth back up, soft strings this time instead of the usual keys he’s leaned on across the run. A small shift, but it’s noticeable. Nothing rushed in the arrangement, just steady and unbothered.
His delivery carries less searching than earlier tracks, more matter-of-fact about whatever goodness he’s naming. Doesn’t oversell it though, no big swelling moment to punctuate the sentiment. Just states it and lets it sit there.
Lyrics stay close to that phrase, heart of gold, circling the idea of decency and worth without digging into specifics. Could be self-reflection, could be about someone else entirely. Ambiguity works fine here, doesn’t need pinning down.
Seven tracks deep, and Kel-P still isn’t handing over a clean narrative. “Heart Of Gold” is just another honest moment, connected loosely to what came before it. That looseness has basically become the whole point of this run.
