South African Maskandi artist Mancinza continues his emotional run on “Izinyembezi,” track four on his 14-song album “Guga Mzimba.”
The title translates to “Tears,” and by this point in the album, the direction feels deliberate rather than coincidental. Mancinza opened with the homesickness of “Ikhaya Lami,” moved into the spiritual weight of “Umkhulekho Kamama,” and now arrives at something even rawer. Each song builds emotional distance from the last one, so listeners get pulled deeper before the album eventually shifts tone.
That sequencing matters because “Izinyembezi” needs the songs before it to land properly. Mancinza sings here about feelings heavy enough to bring someone to tears, and the vocal delivery carries none of the reserve found on the earlier tracks. Where “Umkhulekho Kamama” felt quiet and reflective, this one leans into something closer to release.
Maskandi as a genre has always made room for this kind of honesty, and Mancinza uses that tradition well. He does not dress up the emotion with unnecessary flourishes. Instead, the guitar work stays steady underneath him, letting his voice carry every ounce of the weight the title promises.
Give yourself space before pressing play on “Izinyembezi” – this is not a song built for a rushed first listen.
