UMnotho sticks around once more for “Ithuba Lami,” and Mjolisi finally starts looking forward instead of back.
The title means my chance, and after five tracks moving through doubt, closure, honesty, and struggle, this one shifts toward something like hope. UMnotho’s third appearance in this run gives it a familiar anchor as the tone changes.
Bass keeps that heavier weight from “Impilo Ayilungi,” but the log drum picks up just enough to feel like forward motion. Percussion still leaves space, though it pushes a little harder than the last track allowed.
Mjolisi sounds more determined here than doubtful, his tone carrying something closer to resolve than resignation. UMnotho matches that shift, less about grounding heaviness now and more about backing up a decision.
Six records deep, and this feels like the first time Mjolisi’s actually claiming something instead of questioning it.
