Ghanaian-American Afro-fusion star MOLIY taps Nigerian Kilogbede Records act Mavo for “PRETTY MAMI,” the tenth track on her new mixtape “BADDIES ❤ MOLIY.”
The pairing lands differently from anything else on the project. While the mixtape leans hard on dancehall and braggadocious energy across most of its twelve tracks, “PRETTY MAMI” brings the temperature down a notch. Understated basslines carry the record forward while the Afro-pop bounce stays gentle rather than aggressive. So the song breathes – and both artists use that space well.
Mavo fits this record like a glove. His Burbur-influenced delivery has always worked best in warm, melodic environments. But “PRETTY MAMI” also marks his most internationally visible placement to date. MOLIY’s fanbase spans Ghana, Nigeria, the UK, and the US – so landing on this mixtape puts Mavo in front of an audience his own catalogue has not yet fully reached. That kind of cross-continental exposure is exactly what “Business” as an album has been building toward.
MOLIY’s vocal performance on her side carries that playful serenity she does best when not chasing a dancefloor record. Her intonations stay loose and confident, keeping the chemistry with Mavo conversational rather than performative. The result is one of the mixtape’s more understated moments – but also one of its most rewatchable.
