Tanzanian hip-hop legend MwanaFA breaks a near four-year solo silence with “Baraka Nyingi,” a deeply reflective comeback record built around gratitude and growth.
Four years is a long time to go quiet. But MwanaFA – real name Hamis Mwinjuma – has been far from idle. While the solo records stopped, he built a second career in public service. He currently serves as Member of Parliament for Muheza and Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports under President Samia Suluhu. So the version of MwanaFA returning with “Baraka Nyingi” carries a different weight from the rapper who left.
“Baraka Nyingi” translates to “many blessings” in Swahili. And that title is a deliberate choice. He is not coming back with a diss track or a club banger. He comes back with gratitude – which actually fits the version of himself that spent these years in parliament rather than in studios. Because a man reflecting on where he has been and what he has been given chooses his words carefully. And the writing here shows exactly that patience.
His thoughtful lyricism and storytelling were always what separated him from his East Coast Team peers. “Baraka Nyingi” confirms those instincts are still fully intact. The rap delivery stays sharp throughout. But the message drives the record more than the performance does.
Tanzania’s hip-hop scene has shifted significantly across four years. Yet MwanaFA’s voice still carries the kind of authority that newer artists simply have not had time to build yet.
