Kamba singer Maxwell Mwalimu breaks into Kenya’s YouTube chart with “NI SAWA,” entering at number seven.

The chart entry came after a TikTok build-up. Teaser clips and “coming soon” posts circulated for days. Two of them pulled more than 1,700 likes each. Kamba music pages shared the song under their own hashtags. So fans were ready before the video went live.

On the chart, he sits just ahead of “Ubaya” by Chege and Mbosso at number eight. That puts a Kamba-language record in the same bracket as two big East African names. Diamond Platnumz sits at the top of that list.

Maxwell Mwalimu describes himself as the voice of Ohangla ya Ukamba. He has a following of about 232,000 on Facebook. He has also stayed busy with singles like “Marafiki Fake,” “Nongwendaa,” and “Sikuku.” “Ngunie Simu” was another earlier release.

Regional-language songs often grow through community sharing first. Here, the chart move shows the audience is wide enough to count. It also shows how TikTok can feed a YouTube climb.

Details on production credits haven’t surfaced yet. Still, the numbers and the buzz say plenty.
