South African Maskandi artist Umhlekisi ends his six-track EP “A Pledge” on a Zulu-language note with “Intecijile,” its 4:39 closer.

The song sits at the end of a short, tight project. The EP opens with “Awsayibambi Ifoni” and “Lumnand Uthando,” then moves through the title track “A Pledge,” “Isiqumama,” and “Usbali.” So “Intecijile” arrives after a full run of Zulu storytelling about everyday life. Because it comes last, it carries the job of rounding things off, and a closer like that usually leaves the final impression.

Maskandi has always put real-life experience in its songs. Umhlekisi follows that habit across the EP, using familiar words and social situations as titles. “Usbali,” for example, points to the in-law bond between a bride and her husband’s family, and that kind of cultural detail makes the project feel close to home. Nothing in the early write-ups explains the writing on “Intecijile” itself, so the best way in is to hear it in order.

At nearly five minutes, the track gives the guitar-led style room to settle. Maskandi fans tend to value that patience, and short EPs like this one let each song say more.

For listeners who like a project that ends with care, this closing track completes the story Umhlekisi started in the first song.

Let “Intecijile” close your evening and tell us – what pledge are you keeping this year?
