Nigerian highlife duo Umu Obiligbo return with “Ebube Agu,” a new song from their latest eight-track album, Legendary.
The brothers continue to make music that connects with their Igbo roots. Rather than changing the sound their fans know, they bring their familiar indigenous highlife style into this new recording. The song carries a message about strength, honour and the respect that comes with having a good name.
“Ebube Agu” is an Igbo expression that translates to “Glory of a Lion.” The title gives an idea of the message behind the record, with the duo drawing from cultural expressions and the values associated with strength. Their delivery keeps the song connected to the storytelling style that has followed their music over the years.
The track appears as the second song on Legendary, following the album opener, “Udoka.” It runs for 3 minutes and 32 seconds. Obiligbo Ebuka receives the songwriting credit, while Aku Wealth is credited as the musician on the recording. Umu Obiligbo also handled the executive production.
For those who have followed the duo, their approach will sound familiar. The brothers have spent years building their name through Igbo highlife, with songs such as “Culture” featuring Flavour and “Awele” helping them reach a wider audience.
Legendary contains eight tracks, including “Balance,” “Obi Ocha,” “Nna Amaka” and “Trust.” The project gives fans more of the indigenous sound that has remained central to the duo’s identity.
