Young Stunna and SLY trade a deep seven-minute groove on “Amanxeba,” the sixth track on his album “Busisiwe.”
The title means wounds in Zulu, and the long runtime fits that heavy word. At seven minutes and 22 seconds, the song takes its time, and the groove sits around 113 beats per minute in E-flat minor. Sandile Msimango, the artist’s real name, wrote it. Details about the lyrics have not been shared yet, so the mood comes from the title, the length, and the way the two voices move together. Slow Amapiano records often leave space for feeling, and this one uses that space well.
It sits in the middle of a long album. “Luzuko” with Dlala Thukzin and Funky Qla comes just before it, and “Amabonda” with Kabza De Small arrives soon after. The whole project lasts nearly two hours, so a seven-minute track like this one feels at home. ZAtunes notes that the album is mainly Amapiano, with a few songs that lean toward 3-Step and hip-hop, and “Amanxeba” holds the centre of that mix.
SLY has become a recurring partner on “Busisiwe.” He appears on “Balinde,” “Busisiwe,” “Eduze Kwami,” “Umshini,” and the final outro, so his voice ties the album together. Piano Hub, the label linked to Kabza De Small, released the project through Sony Music Entertainment Africa. Young Stunna, who grew up in Daveyton, has built his career on that Piano Hub family.
For Amapiano fans who like deep, patient tracks that reward a full listen, this is an easy one to set aside time for.
Sit through all seven minutes of “Amanxeba” and tell us – what wound does the song make you think about?
