South African Maskandi singer and storyteller Quality Biyela opens his six-track EP with the title track “Nizolala Nidakiwe”, a record that embraces traditional roots in full, while staying fresh for 2026.

“Nizolala Nidakiwe” translates roughly to “I Will Sleep Drunk” in Zulu, and that title alone sets an interesting tone. It suggests a certain surrender – the kind that comes when life has pushed you far enough that you stop fighting and simply let the moment take over. Quality Biyela has always told stories that feel drawn from real experience, and this record continues that tradition without apology.

What makes this release significant is also its placement. “Nizolala Nidakiwe” is the first track on the EP and has to draw people in and set the tone for everything that comes after it. Quality Biyela handles that pressure well. The guitar work is familiar to anyone who follows Maskandi closely, yet the production stays sharp enough to hold modern listeners.

The full EP also includes tracks like “Wobuya,” “Inzila,” “Ningajahi,” and “Ukuganywa,” so there is clearly a full world built around this title track. Besides the strong catalogue he has developed over recent years, Quality Biyela proves here that Maskandi in 2026 remains a living, breathing genre – not a relic, but a cultural force still capable of saying something meaningful.
