Famous South African music maestro known as Quality Biyela drops this incredible smash dubbed Oqhakazile
“Oqhakazile” means one who has blossomed or flourished in Zulu. So as a closing record on the EP, the title choice feels deliberate. After moving through themes of money and sin on “Mali Unesono,” defiance on “Siwumqansa,” and cultural grounding on “Iskhuni,” ending on a word that speaks to growth and flowering makes complete sense. It gives the project a sense of arrival rather than just stopping.
Quality Biyela has a consistent ability to sequence his projects with intention.
The record also reflects the Afro-centric production direction that runs through Ama-Nudes. While Nizolala Nidakiwe stayed rooted in traditional Maskandi instrumentation, this project allowed Quality Biyela to blend contemporary sounds into his identity. “Oqhakazile” sits in that blended space comfortably and confidently.
Across twelve tracks and two EPs in 2026, Quality Biyela has built one of the more complete bodies of work in the South African Maskandi space this year.
Press play and enjoy the sweet melodies of great music.
