Nigerian rapper and Penthauze Music boss Phyno is back in the streets with “Na Afa Nna,” a raw freestyle that signals the opening of his SPIDER album campaign.

Few artists in the Nigerian rap scene carry a name as loaded as Phyno’s. Real name Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, the Anambra-born rapper first broke through with “Ghost Mode” back in 2012 and has since built one of the most consistent catalogues in indigenous rap. From “No Guts No Glory” to “The Playmaker” to the “2 Kings” joint project with Olamide, and right through to his 2024 album “Full Time Job” on Penthauze Music, the man has never really stopped working.

“Na Afa Nna” arrives as a freestyle but carries the weight of a statement. While it runs without a full production rollout, the timing matters because it positions Phyno firmly at the front of conversations ahead of SPIDER. Freestyles of this nature usually say more about where an artist’s head is than a polished single ever would. So this one is worth paying attention to.

Phyno raps primarily in Igbo, and “Na Afa Nna” holds true to that. The language carries the emotion differently. It also speaks directly to his core fanbase, who have been waiting to hear what direction the new album takes.
