Neema Gospel Choir just dropped “Lango,” and the title alone tells you where their head’s at. It means “gate” in Swahili, tying back to an earlier song of theirs called “Malango.”
This choir has been at it for years, known across East Africa for tight, disciplined harmonies. Nothing flashy, just voices stacked on voices doing what they do best. “Lango” doesn’t try to reinvent that formula.
The arrangement stays sparse on purpose, a few instruments, mostly just the choir carrying itself. You can feel the build happening slowly instead of all at once. It’s patient in a way a lot of modern gospel records aren’t anymore.
Lyrically, the whole thing leans on the idea of a gate, something you walk through to get closer to God. It’s simple, almost plain, but that’s kind of the point with music like this. Nobody’s trying to be clever here.
