Romanian producer DJ Goja stretches out “Mi Chico” on this new slowed version, keeping Jason Derulo and Melody’s vocals but pulling the whole thing into a hazier pace.

The original already had a story worth knowing. Goja said the idea came to him while working on children’s music, and he wanted that same repetitive, easy-to-remember structure fused with Afro house rhythm. That’s an unusual starting point for a summer dance record. But it explains why “Mi Chico” caught on so fast once Derulo and Melody joined.

This slowed rework strips back the tempo and lets the Afro house groove breathe differently. Where the original moved fast and bright, this version leans into a more atmospheric, nighttime feel. It’s the kind of edit built for headphones as much as clubs.

Derulo’s vocals sit right in that slower pocket, and the extra space actually pulls out more emotion from his delivery. His line about loving how she calls him “chico” lands softer here, almost tender. Melody’s presence threads through the mix too, adding that Brazilian pop warmth the original leaned on heavily.

DJ Goja’s touch stays subtle throughout, letting the vocalists carry the emotional weight while he handles the pacing. It’s a smart flip, not a reinvention, just a different angle on a song that already worked.
